Punitive Punishment

Punitive punishment is the old "lock em' up and throw away the key" ideology. It views the offender and being a threat to society and dominates the American punishment system. Those who believe in punitive punishment believe the punishment is justified and the offender is incapable of rehabilitation or retribution.
Punitive punishment doesn't focus on leading factors of crime or how people can and do change for the better, it simply punishes. It offers no true restoration or programming to prevent recidivism.
Punitive punishment is not the answer our society needs or deserves!
This approach can lead to higher recidivism rates, as it neglects rehabilitation, education, and support systems necessary for successful reintegration into society. Without these elements, individuals are more likely to re-offend, perpetuating the cycle of crime.
